the gentle power of Gaia

We had a significant amount of snow beginning late yesterday afternoon, and ending sometime overnight. Three inches were promised; we got 8.
It's all very beautiful here in a number of ways. Trees and bushes are sugared generously with snow, there are snowmen here and there and snowballs splatted all around. Lots of fun if you like that kind of thing.
Plus, the highway near here is silent. Actually, it has been silenced.
By the snow.
All of those expensive, "powerful" vehicles become worthless hunks of deadweight after a heavy snow falls. Despite having nature-taming names like "Trail Blazer" and "Terra Cross," these inventions of men are shown to be completely useless in less-than-ideal driving conditions. So, they sit there on the snowy road costing their drivers lots of money. Not blazing any trails or taming any mountains. Going nowhere. Making no noise.
Those who believe in Gaia theory see this blizzard as an act of regulation. There was a lot of water in the air, cold air blew in, temperatures fell, and snow now hugs the land. Gently and firmly.
When you consider that this area rarely sees this kind of snowfall, you might be inclined to think that something's wrong. You might think that the activities of mankind have thrown things out of whack, and that the weather is a response to that.
Gaia is sending a message. People have a chance to think about it.
But people don't have to think about it. People can curse the weather for happening, strap chains to their wheels, hope the scrapers and salters make their attack on the invading, impertinent snow, so that they can get back to the normalcy of driving...
